Uttarakhand’s First OPU-IVF Calf Born In Badri Cattle Breed

Why in News?

A healthy Badri female calf was successfully born on 11 September 2026 through Ovum Pick-Up and In Vitro Fertilization (OPU-IVF) technology following an embryo transfer.

Key Points

• A Badri female calf was born through Ovum Pick-Up and In Vitro Fertilization (OPU-IVF) followed by embryo transfer.
• Oocytes from elite Badri donor cows were fertilised in vitro using semen from superior Badri bulls.
• The resulting Badri embryo was transferred to a Sahiwal recipient cow, which carried the pregnancy to term.
• The work was carried out jointly by ICAR-NDRI and G.B. Pant University of Agriculture and Technology.
