On July 14, 2026, the Geographical Indications Registry granted the GI tag to Unjha Cumin and Unjha Fennel from Gujarat.
Key Points
The registration was secured jointly by Unjha APMC, the Department of Horticulture, Sardarkrushinagar Dantiwada Agricultural University, and the Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India.
Unjha hosts one of Asia's largest spice markets, trading crops from both Gujarat and Rajasthan.
India is the world's largest producer and exporter of cumin, with Gujarat contributing a major share.
