# Turkey Becomes 71st Signatory to Artemis Accords

Turkey became the **71st country** to join the **Artemis Accords**, a framework for cooperation in the peaceful exploration of the Moon, Mars and deep space.
### Key Details
- The Artemis Accords build on principles of the **1967 Outer Space Treaty**.
- They cover issues such as **sharing scientific data, emergency assistance to astronauts, interoperability of space systems and preservation of historic sites** on celestial bodies.
- Turkey became the **7th West Asian country** to join the framework.
- Turkey’s space programme also includes **AYAP-1**, an uncrewed lunar mission, and its first astronaut **Alper Gezeravcı**, who travelled to the ISS in 2024.
