Maharashtra Approves India's First AI-Powered Bird Sanctuary at Thane Creek

The Maharashtra government approved India's first AI-powered bird sanctuary within the Thane Creek Flamingo Sanctuary (TCFS).

The project includes Eco-Nature Park to boost bird conservation and eco-tourism.
India's first AI-powered bird detection and monitoring centre will use AI-enabled cameras, drones, and acoustic sensors across a 1.5-kilometer radius.
It shall help in real-time identification of bird species, tracking of migration patterns, and automated acoustic vocalization studies.
It lies on the Central Asian Flyway (CAF) which is a massive, globally recognized bird migration highway that connects the Arctic regions of Eurasia to the Indian Ocean

Thane Creek Flamingo Sanctuary → declared a protected sanctuary in 2015–16 → India's first flamingo sanctuary → part of the Central Asian Flyway → hosts over 200 bird species, including Greater and Lesser Flamingos
