Kumik Village Declared Ladakh’s First Heritage Village

Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena declared Kumik village in Zanskar as the first designated Heritage Village of Ladakh.

Kumik in Zanskar became the first village in Ladakh to receive the Heritage Village designation.
The village is recognised for preserveing its Kanjur manuscripts, Tibetan Buddhist materials, traditional houses, sacred spaces and Himalayan agricultural practices.

Zanskar → became a district in April 2026 → home to the sacred peak Gonbo Rangjon
Ladakh → became a Union Territory on October 31, 2019
