Six States Sign Kishau Multipurpose Project Agreement

Why in News?

The Chief Ministers of six states signed a historic agreement for the Kishau Multipurpose Project in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Jal Shakti Minister C. R. Patil.

Key Points

• The project involves Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan and Delhi.
• It will build a 232.6-metre concrete gravity dam on the Tons River along the Uttarakhand–Himachal Pradesh border.
• The project is designed to irrigate about 97,000 hectares and generate 1,476 million units of hydropower.
• It has been declared a National Project, with the Centre bearing 90% of the financial burden.
