Why in News?
The US Navy and Air Force revealed the AIM-424 “Malice”, a new long-range air-to-air missile designed for future high-end aerial combat.
What makes the missile notable?
- An air-to-air missile is launched from an aircraft to engage another aircraft; the AIM-424 is designed for engagements at very long distances.
- The missile is being developed by Raytheon and is intended for platforms including the F-35C and future combat aircraft.
- Its long range and datalink capability are meant to allow aircraft to engage targets while staying farther from enemy defences.
