Why in News?
CSIR-National Aerospace Laboratories unveiled three indigenous micro and small gas-turbine engines — NJ-05, NJ-50 and NJ-100 — for compact aerospace systems.
Where can these engines be used?
- The engines are designed for applications such as tactical UAVs, drone interceptors and compact missile systems.
- Their names broadly correspond to thrust classes of 5 kg, 50 kg and 100 kg.
- Developing such engines domestically reduces dependence on imported propulsion technology for small aerospace platforms.
