Why in News?
The 140-year-old Parichha Dam in Jhansi was recognised as a World Heritage Irrigation Structure by the International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage (ICID).
Why is Parichha Dam significant?
- The heritage tag is given to historic irrigation structures that have remained functionally important for more than a century.
- Parichha Dam is built on the Betwa River and forms the headworks of the Betwa Canal System, irrigating areas of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.
- The recognition is especially relevant for UPPCS because the site is in Jhansi and is linked to the Betwa river system.
