What is Hiroshima Day?
Hiroshima Day is observed every year on August 6 to remember the victims of the first atomic bomb attack in history. The bombing occurred in 1945, near the end of World War II, and caused massive destruction and loss of life.
The first Hiroshima Day Peace Festival was held on August 6, 1947, organized by the Hiroshima Peace Festival Association to promote peace. The annual memorial ceremony takes place at the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park in Japan.
The Genbaku Dome is the only structure that survived the bombing. It was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1996, serving as a powerful symbol of peace and nuclear disarmament.
