Why in News?
Investment commitments for India's first dedicated Telecom Manufacturing Zone in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, reached ₹5,500 crore after an investors' meet organised by the government.
What is the Telecom Manufacturing Zone?
- The zone is planned as an integrated manufacturing ecosystem covering telecom equipment, R&D, testing, optical fibre and semiconductor-related activities.
- It is expected to generate more than 18,000 jobs and attract further investment as the project expands.
- Implementation will be overseen through a Special Purpose Vehicle involving the Department of Telecommunications and the Madhya Pradesh government.
