AS Rajeev assumed charge as the acting Central Vigilance Commissioner (CVC) on August 3, 2026, succeeding Praveen Kumar Srivastava, a 1988-batch IAS officer of the Assam-Meghalaya Cadre, whose tenure had ended.
What is the CVC and How is the Appointment Made?
The Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) is India's apex anti-corruption body, established in 1964 on the recommendations of the Santhanam Committee and given statutory status by the Central Vigilance Commission Act, 2003. It consists of a Central Vigilance Commissioner (Chairperson) and up to two Vigilance Commissioners (Members).
AS Rajeev, who has over 38 years of experience across banks like Syndicate Bank, Vijaya Bank, Indian Bank, and Bank of Maharashtra, was originally appointed as a Vigilance Commissioner in February 2024. His current appointment as acting CVC was authorized by the President of India under Section 10(1) of the CVC Act, 2003, following the completion of Srivastava's tenure.
