# Bihar and Jharkhand Finalise Sone River Water-Sharing Pact

**Bihar and Jharkhand** finalised an agreement to settle a **25-year-old dispute** over sharing the waters of the **Sone River**.
### Key Details
- The pact divides **7.75 million acre-feet (MAF)** of water between the two states.
- The dispute arose after **Jharkhand was carved out of Bihar in 2000**, requiring the earlier allocation of undivided Bihar to be divided.
- The agreement is linked to the **1973 Bansagar Agreement**, which involved Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and undivided Bihar.
- The settlement followed recommendations of a committee under the **Central Water Commission (CWC)**.
