Ashiv Becomes Maharashtra's First 100% PNG Village

Why in News?

Ashiv in Latur district was declared Maharashtra's first village where all connected households have shifted from LPG cylinders to Piped Natural Gas (PNG).

What changes with PNG?

• PNG supplies natural gas directly to kitchens through pipelines, removing the need to replace LPG cylinders.
• Mahanagar Gas connected about 1,050 households in Ashiv, creating a village-wide city-gas network.
• The project fits India's wider effort to expand the share of natural gas in the energy mix.
