Rangpur-Sivasagar Historic Ensemble Added to UNESCO Tentative List

Key Details

• The ensemble includes important Ahom-era architecture and water-management works.
• Key components include Rang Ghar, Talatal Ghar, Joysagar, Gaurisagar and Sivasagar tanks, along with temples, roads and bridges.
• The site reflects the political, ceremonial and engineering legacy of the Ahom Kingdom, which ruled much of the Brahmaputra Valley for nearly six centuries.
• A place must normally first appear on a country’s Tentative List before it can be nominated for World Heritage inscription.
