Why in News?
The government reported that 274 fugitives had been brought back to India from 36 countries since 2019 under Operation Trishul and related international law-enforcement efforts.
How does Operation Trishul work?
- The operation uses international police cooperation along with digital and surveillance tools to locate fugitives hiding abroad.
- Cases include terrorism, organised crime, extortion and sexual offences.
- The CBI plays a key role because it serves as India's National Central Bureau for INTERPOL.
