Why in News?
Major General Sunil Kumar Razdan, known as the first wheelchair-borne officer to rise to the rank of Major General in the Indian Army, passed away.
Why is he remembered?
- Razdan served with 7 PARA (Special Forces) and was paralysed below the waist after sustaining spinal injuries.
- He received the Kirti Chakra for a 1994 counter-terrorism operation in Jammu and Kashmir and later rose to the rank of Major General despite his disability.
- He was also awarded the Vishisht Seva Medal for distinguished service.
