• The title rotates among SCO member states to promote tourism, cultural exchange and people-to-people contact.
• Previous SCO Tourism and Cultural Capitals: Varanasi (2022–23), Almaty (2023–24), Qingdao (2024–25) and Cholpon-Ata (2025–26).
• Varanasi was the inaugural city to receive the title.
• The designation was announced during the SCO’s 25th anniversary year.
