India signed a Letter of Offer and Acceptance with the United States to procure Javelin anti-tank guided missile systems for the Indian Army.
Key Details
- The Javelin is a man-portable fire-and-forget anti-tank missile—after launch, its guidance system can continue tracking the target without the operator steering it.
- It can use a top-attack profile, striking the comparatively thinner upper armour of tanks and other armoured vehicles.
- The procurement is being taken forward through a government-to-government route.
- India and the US are also working towards possible joint production in India.
