The DRDO issued a Request for Proposal on September 10, 2026, for the SHIELD programme to develop specialized evaluation systems for high-power microwave (HPM) technology against drones.

- SHIELD stands for S-band High-Power Microwave Integrated Evaluation System for Lethality and Damage.
- The programme will evaluate high-power microwave (HPM) systems that can disable drones by disrupting their electronic circuits rather than using a kinetic interceptor.
- It is being executed under the Technology Development Fund (TDF) to support Indian industry, MSMEs and start-ups.
- The system will help identify vulnerabilities causing communication failure, sensor malfunction and navigation disruption in unmanned aircraft.
